Over 50 4x4 cars, UTVs and ATVs came to Sweden Offroad Tour Bergunda-Växjö Tuesday July 14. That is a record for the area and a good number for a weekday. We still have 50 % more vehicles on the 20 year anniversary tour than last year! We hope for a new record for SOT!
I11 former military area have excellent quality; large varied, a myriad of trails and a nice free driving area. The granite slope in the power line is a joy, so flat and steep it is almost unnatural. Lots of muddy parts toodue to the wet summer.
We also hade a record in UTVs! 5 of them at a SOT day. Some of them with rap music sounding and disco lights - the new offrroad generation! They are becoming more and more popular. Many buy them instead of a used 4x4 car. They are regarded as cars because they have steering wheel and seats. UTVs are factory built for tough offroading and seldom break down, compared to a used 4x4 car. In USA they are selling moreUTV than ATV now.
Tony LarZon from Falkenberg showed up in his pink(!) Land Rover Defender. He has his company http://www.rough.se that arranges expeditions to for example North Africa. You can bring your own car or hire a seat in his cars.
It's the first time we heard of a Swede arranging 4x4-trips to Africa. But tour leader Peter Öjerskog focuses on his exotic expedition: 20th Sweden Offroad Tourr 10-26.7 2015! In Växjö our partner is Wexiö Offroaders.
Tasty kebab, falafel, chicken was served from the food truck.
The weather was typically Swedish for this cool summer: 20 degrees Celsius, slight wind and sun. Perfect for offroading but not the beach. Maybe it is because of that we have so many vehicles.
Tomorrow Wednesday July 15 we are driving SOT Ökna-Vetland. A large and varied private offroad area with big height difference from the top of the mountain down to the creek in the valley.
Our partner Vetlanda ATV is servering superb potatoe hast, bacon and lingoberry jam - very Swedish!
