SOT Ski slopes-Hofors is the northernmost offroad area on 20th Sweden Offroad Tour July 10-26 2015. Then we turn southwest to western Sweden.
Unique with Hofors is that we have two totally different offroad areas. Before lunch we drive the ski slopes and an additional long forest trail. The view from the top is just spectacular, a wonderful panorma stretching 50 kilometres to the Baltic coast!
After lunch we drive our partner Gestrike Offroad's own club area 5 kilometres away. A muddy and wet area with lots of trails and very audience friendly. New for this year was a long forest trail that was "easy" for the standard cars.
A young couple from Switzerland in a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with a T@B caravan in tow showed up. They had made a great trip up through Norway all the way to Lofoten and then going south through Sweden and catching som offroad on SOT.
Their Jeep is unique in a "Sahara Tan" colour, only avaible in 2011. And the roof is convered to be raised for a roof tent!
Our Danish friends in their two Can-Am UTVs are having a field day, especially in the water filled mud holes. All four of them wearing goggles to save their eyes from dirt.
Local newspaper Gestrike Tidning made a feature.
As usual Gestrike Offroad served a superb lunch at the ski hut at the foot of the slopes; freshly grilled meat with potatoe salad and bearnaise sauce, plus really cold drinks.
20 year celebrating SOT will set a new participants record. Unfortunately we are now out of start decals when three SOT days are left... We are sorry for this but could never imagine the succes of this year's SOT! We also only have two XXL anniversary T-shirts left. They were popular like hot cakes.
Tomorrow Friday July 24 10 AM we drive Aspnäs track-Säter. A motor sport area with absolutely free driving in forest, trial sections, two moto cross track and our famous swamp called "myr" in Swedish, typical for "Lapland" and the only one we have on the tour. 2 PM we hope for a tourist tour to a waterfilled 600 year old quarry for a swim in the ice blue water. Camping is allowed on the motor area.
The Swedish summer 2015 is unusual cool - but that is probably the reason we set a new record! The beach has never been an option...
