13th Sweden Offroad Tour goes 5-20.7 2008. All information on http://www.swedenoffroad.com . Here are som reasons why you ought to participate:
* SOT is Sweden’s and one of the world’s greatest 4x4 adventures. Last year, with an average of 50 vehicles per day, totally 400 4x4 cars and ATVs took part.

Finally we have published the program with map and route for 13 th Sweden Offroad Tour July 5-20 2008.

Normally we publish the map on December 1. But this year we applied also for military areas, but got only no…

As usual we offer 15 offroad areas from Kristianstad in the south to Kiruna in the north. New area this year is Medskogssjön south of Ockelbo.

Last year, with an average of 50 vehicles totally 400 4x4 cars and ATVs took part in SOT, which makes it Sweden's and one of the world's greatest offroad adventures.

Sweden Offroad Tour 5-20.7 2008

13th Sweden Offroad Tour goes July 5-20 2008. As usual we have 15 offroad areas from Kristianstad in the south to Kiruna in the north. We offer one new offroad area this year: Medsskogssjön and its camping south of Ockelbo.

With an average of 50 vehicles per offroad day SOT last year attracted totally 400 4x4 vehicles from 12 countries, which makes SOT one of the biggest 4x4 adventures in he world. We hope for even more this summer because ATVs are also welcome.

The reason we are late with the program is because we also applied for military offroad areas . but got a NO everywhere…

80 vehicles from 10 countries at the start of SOT!

12th Sweden Offroad Tour 7-22.7 2007 set a record on its first day in Vånga outside Kristianstad: totally 80 vehicles, 76 cars and 4 ATV, from 10 nations took part!
That's the best figures we had on the first day since SOT started in 1995. Even more amazing when you know it was raining almost all day, and it has been raining awfully much in southern Sweden the last week. People are even drowning in their cars on the road!
Ther where cars from: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, England, Germany, Holland, France, Austria, Poland and Hungary!
Englishman Michael Miles is taking part fort the 8th time and as usual he is driving ALL of SOT 2007!
The weather will be better. Already on Sunday the the rain will stop and the sun will shine.

Sunday 8.7 SOT Karlshamn moved to Ronneby!!!

Due to extreme rain we are forced to move Sunday 8.7 SOT Karlshamn to Ronneby!
We are driving on the offroad trails in Sjöarp, where SOT has been arranged before.
Sjöarp is located by the old main road (Gamla Riksvägen) between Bräkne-Hoby and Ronneby, 15 kilometres east of Karlshamn.
The camping is the same: Kolleviks Camping in Karlshamn. But there is also Järnaviks Camping south of Bräkne-Hoby.
Other SOT places are NOT interfered by rain.

12th SOT 7-22.7 2007 goes through Laplands inland

12th Sweden Offroad Tour 7-22.7 2007 offers three new offroad areas:
Ludvika (Björnhyttan) Sunday 15.7
Sveg (Motor & Vildmarkscenter in Vemvallen) Tuesday 17.7 and
Hammarstrand (Zorb Center in Döviken) Wedensday 18.7.
That makes that SOT for the first time in many years goes through the wild inland of Lapland instead of the boring E 4 along thed coast.
We go back to 15 offroad days so the participants get a well deserved travelday on Thursday 19.7 between Hammarstrand and Kalix in Lapland.
We also welcome 4x4 ATV:s on the whole tour, in co-operation with Swedish magazine ATV-QUAD.
We will publish the map, route and program for Sweden Offroad Tour on Friday 1.12 on this site. But here are already dates and places:

Ludvika new offroad area Sunday 15.7 on SOT 2007

Sunday July 15 offroad area Märsta is changed to Ludvika on 12th Sweden Offroad Tour 7-22.7 2007.
We are cooperating with Ludvika motor club's offroad section and drive on their fine offroad area Björnhyttan, between Blötberg and Saxdala, 10 k east of Ludvika.
According to contact person Björn Elvegard the offroad area is LARGE and suitable for alla types of 4x4 vehicles.
Camping is on Ludvika Camping, 0240-19935, by lake Haggen, 5 k south of Ludvika.
Vid Ludvika (Björnhyttan) we have Three (3!) new offroad areas on SOT 2007, including Sveg (Vemvallen) and Hammarstrand (Döviken).
We will change the SOT map and program as quick as possible on http://www.swedenoffroad.com
Please help to spread the news about Ludvika 15.7.

4 pages about SOT in finnish Land Rover magazine

Rover Friends Finland has existed since 1981 and is a club for both Rover personal cars and Land Rover 4x4 cars.
The club magazine editor Tapani Karhinen took part in Sweden Offroad Tour last summer in a team of three finnish Land Rovers.
The result is a four pages feature in the club magazine Rover Ystävät 2/2006 N:o 76. Wonderful photos is published from Kalix and Kiruna. Our web address www.swedenoffroad.com is written out too.
Two pages is about last year's SOT and the other two about the history behind Sweden's and one of the world's greatest offroad advetures.
The four pages story means good publicity for SOT and we hope to attract more finnish cars than the 1-3 finnish cars we normally have.

Land Rover Monthly writes about Sweden Offroad Tour

British magazine Land Rover Monthly has in its December issue a two pages colour feature on this summer's Sweden Offroad Tour (pages 128-129)!
Venturers Search & Rescue from England took part for the second time in SOT. This summer they drove a vintage Land Rover 90 V8.
The author is excited about the freedom, beauty and variation on Sweden's greatest 4x4 adventure. But not so excited about all the problems with the Landy...
Land Rover Monthly is one of four british Land Rover magazines sold all over the world, which mean fine publicity for SOT.
The author sums up his article with the headline "Land of The Midnight Sun" in LRM's December issue:
"To sum up the Sweden Offroad Tour: it is a wonderful opportunity for a family holiday with your standard 4x4. Date of the year: 8-23.7 2006.
Offroad sites of the year: Falkenberg, Kristianstad, Karlshamn, Karlskrona, Vetlanda, Söderköping, Kumla, Strängnäs, Stockholm, Märsta, Säter, Söderhamn, Härnösand, Kalix, Gällivare, Kiruna.
New sites of the year: Kristianstad (Vånga gravel pit), Söderköping (Olerum, now Sweden's largest private offroad area), Märsta (Rosersberg 4WD Land), Säter (Aspnäs motortrack).
Record of the year 1: 365 4x4 cars (with an average of 50 cars per day), 15 more than last year, although a petrol price at over 13 SEK. SOT is Sweden's and one of the world's greatest offroad adventures!
Record of the year 2: Offroad driving during all 16 days, not one singel travel day.

Surprise of the year: SOT Märsta 17.7. That Rosersberg 4WD Land held such a high class! Excellent trails!
Most missed: Engelsman Michael Miles, who earlier has taken part in 7 full SOT with his green Range Rover.
Least missed: The mosquitos, who died from drieness and cold nights.
Media of the year 1: Denmark Radio's reporter Rikke Hedeaeger Matthiesen who made a documentary on SOT 2006, which will be sent in P1 radio channel.
Media of the year 2: Dagens Nyheters (Sweden's largest daily) motor reporter Kalle Holmberg offroad drove the new Suzuki Jimny and Fiat Panda during SOT Strängnäs 15.7.

50's of the year: Newly opened 1950's café Back To The 50's at old E4 (Sweden's Route 66!) at Skånes-Fagerhult between Örkelljunga and Markaryd.
Winners of the year: The three German 4x4 carst hat won one cup each at Onsdagsbus (Wednesday Crazy) at Midlanda Motorpark, the evening before SOT Hänrösand 20.7.
Jeep of the year: SOT Falkenberg 8.7. New seven seater Jeep Commander took part for the first time in SOT.
Break down of the year 1: SOT Gällivare 22.7. The frontal diff on the Norwegians Mitsubishi would not work still after ten hours of welding.
Break down of the year 2: SOT Härnösand 20.7. The Dutch who during overtaking on a gravel road went down the ditch and hit a big stone. He hammerd the front wheels round again!
Break down of the year 3: The Tour leader Jeep's double puncture on both rear tyres during road work between Umeå and Bjurholm...
Stuck of the year: SOT Kumla 14.7. A Chevrolet Suburban in the big mudhole got to be winched by two cars...
Service of the year 1: SOT Falkenberg 8.7. Göran Kastell and his Land Rover repair gave free service to British Ventures Search & Rescue when welding their tow hook!
Service of the year 2: SOT Vetlanda 12.7. Six persons served lunch in Ökna, one per dish including one cashier!
Sunshine of the year: Whole damn Sweden Offroad Tour 8-23.7 2006! Sun from a clear blue sky during all the 16 offroad days. But modest temperatures at 20-25 degrees Celsius, perfect for car driving.
Rain of the year: What rain?! Not a single drop fell during all the 16 offroad days. Too few drops fell the nights before SOT Vetlanda 12.7 and SOT Kiruna 23.7.
Wettest of the year: SOT Kumla14.7. The water holes were all full
Muddiest of the year: SOT Karlshamn 10.7. Swamps that never dries.
Driest of the year: SOT Härnösand 20.7. Awfully dusty but we could drive on the swamps ("myr" in Swedish).
High point of the year: SOT Söderhamn 19.7. The top of Norrlandsporten's ski slopes offers magnificent views over the beginnign Lapland.
Mud hole of the year: The worst hole at SOT Söderköping 13.7 which only the land owners Volvo 6x6 went througt by full gas!
Hottest of the year: SOT Kristianstad 9.7. In the bottom of Vånga gravel pit is was 28 degrees Celsius
Coldest of the year: SOT Kiruna 23.7. 8 degrees Celsius. The top of Luossavaara mountain (as usual...) by midnight to se the midnight sun.
Lunch of the year 1: SOT Vetlanda 12.7. In Ökna the neighbour family Green served typically Swedish meat balls, cooked potatoes, brown sauce, lingonberries, drink, coffee and cookie for just 50 SEK. Astonishing atmosphere and service!
Lunch of the year 2: SOT Härnösand 20.7. "Laplandish kebab" at Midlanda Motorpark.
Dinner of the year 1: SOT Kiruna 23.7. Reindeer stew and mashed potatoes, lingonberries, "thinbread" and lingonberry juide at the farewell dinner at the restaurant at Ripan Camping. It won't get any more Laplandish than this!
Dinner of the year 2: Grill buffee at Mälarstrand Krog & Café at lake Mälaren in Västerås. Delicous and fantastic environment!
Coffee break of the year: SOT Gällivare 22.7. Fresh waffles with cloudberry jam and whipped cream at the Midnight Café on top of "kalfjäll" (treeless mountain) Dundret.
Midnight sun of the year: SOT Kiruna 23.7, partly clouded as usual...
Swim of the year: SOT Kristianstad 9.7. After 28 degrees Celsius at the bottom of Vånga gravel pit a cool swim in Ivösjön was refreshing.
Reindeer of the year: SOT Kalix 21.7. The "tourist reindeer" at Marieberg Wildlife Farm who likes offroad!
Dragrace of the year: Between the two military Volvo 6x6 during Onsdagsbuset (Wednesday Crazy) at Midlanda Motorpark!
Museum of the year 1: Petrol Museum in Älvsbyn (petrol station nostalgia!).
Museum of the year2: Caravan Museum in Dorotea (free entrance!).
Scene of the year: The wooden scene at Östra Berget (East Mountain) in Söderhamn where The Who played 4.6 1966.
Quote of the year: SOT Falkenberg 8.7. "Sweden Offroad Tour is the high ight of the year. You can drive as much offroad as you want!". By Norwegian who has taken part several times.
Miss of the year: To have a 500 kilometres transport to Kalix the same day as SOT Härnösand 20.7. I won't be repeated...
Moment of the year 1: SOT Vetlanda 12.7. The lunch with homecooked meatballs in the shadow of the old leaf tree surrounded by old red wooden houses will be a memory for ever.
Moment of the year 2: SOT Kiruna 23.7. In the end of the farewell dinner when the talking and address exchainging really has started. The participants didn't want SOT end!

11th Sweden Offroad Tour 8-23.7 2006 is on its way!

11th Sweden Offroad Tour July 8-23 2006 has started. And we had 65 cars on Saturday in Falkeberg and 75 cars on Sunday in Kristianstad - which is a new record start for SOT!
We are already people from eight countries: Sweden, Denmark, Norway, England, Germany, Holland, Poland and Switzerland!
We are proud to present no less than four new offroad locations to vary the tour:
Kristianstad (Vånga), Söderköping (Olerum), Märta (Rosersberg) and Säter (Säter Motorpark).
For the first time SOT 2006 contains maximum 16 offroad days, with no travel days.
SOT has in a decade grown to Sweden's and one of the world's greatest 4x4 adventures.
Last year SOT, with an average of 50 cars per offroad day, set a new record with totally 350 4x4 cars from 13 countries during the two weeks and 3000 kilometres.
SOT is the adventure of your life. You do what you like best - drive offroad - and the fun continues day after day after day after day after day...
And you never get tired of it. Because every day there are new terrain, new cars, new people, new camping and new city.

Time for 11th Sweden Offrod Tour July 2006

It's time for 11 th Sweden Offroad Tour July 8-23 2006. Here are some reasons why you should participate in Sweden's greatest 4x4 adventure:

* New offroad areas on SOT this year are Kristianstad (Vånga gravel pit with surrounding terrain), Söderköping (Terrain Touring Olerum-Söderköping this spring attracted 70 cars)
och Säter (The motor track has so good terrain it's used for car trials).

* New this year on SOT is that we drive offroad during alla the 16 days. No rest/travel day!

* Unique with SOT is that you can join and leave (and join again!) the tour when ever you want. And there is no pre-registration. To join one day is like a walk in the park. To join all the way is as tought as an international 4x4-competition.

* On SOT you do what you like best: drive offroad. And the fun continues day after day after day after day after day after... And you don't get tired of it because every day there is new terrain, new cars, new people, new camping and new city.

* If you join SOT for at least three days you will garanteed get new friends. If you stay at least a week you will get friends for life!

* On SOT the whole family can join, including the dog. If the wife and children don't want to drive offroad all day they can stay at the camping for sunning and swimming, or sight seeing in the city, or leave the SOT-day whenever you want, or take a one-day-brake.

Six pages Sweden Offroad Tour feature in Finnish magazine

The Finnish car magazine TURBO 2/2006 contains a nice six pages colour feature on Sweden Offroad Tour.
The feature is written by Matti Sulanto, who has joined Sweden's greatest 4x4 adventure several times.
The photos are from the SOT days in Stockholm (gravel terrain) and Boden (mud terrain).
The feature also has a complete facts notice about 11 th Sweden Offroad Tour July 8-23 2006.
Let's hope the Finnish feature attracts som more Finnish cars to SOT. We always have at least one Finnish car on the adventure trip, but would like more.
The Finnish TURBO-feature is the latest of over 100 featurres that have been publlished on SOT in magazines, radio, TV and Internet.

England's largest all-brand magazine Total Off Road nominates in its March issue Sweden Offroad Tour as one of "50 greatest off road adventures in the world!"
On page 38 you can find SOT with a nice photo of the tour leader Jeep leading a caravan of 4x4s up a granite mountain with endless forests in the background outside Härnösand.

Sweden Offroad Tour Monday July 17 will be driven at Rosersbergs 4WD Land south west of Märsta/Arlanda/E4 north of Stockholm.
Here Experience Driving have their permanent offroad area, where they even have offroad meetings every other Sunday.
Rosersbergs 4WD Land is located just by Rosersbergs castle och the Rescue School.
It's the first time we drive SOT at Rosersberg.

Biggest hero 1: Totally paralysed Conny Örnesved, from Täby outside Stockholm, in a rebuilt Jeep Wrangler 1998, who showed that nothing can stop a real offroaders! Had to quit last year because of a drowned gearbox, but made it all the way to Kiruna this summer.
Biggest hero 2: The tour leader who on his way home winched away a fallen down tree on the road that blocked the traffic between Åtvidaberg and Ringarum in Southern Sweden.
Winner of The Year 1: To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of SOT we draw a vinner from all the 350 drivers in SOT who got free participating in SOT and all Terrain Touring (Saturday Offroad Meetings) for 2006, worth 1.000 Euro: The winner is Nicklas Johannesen from Bjärnum in Skåne, in his Nissan King Cab 1987 who took part in SOT Hässleholm 3.7!
Winner of The Year 2: Conny Örnesved from Täby outside Stockholm who won a trophy for best 4x4 during the Motor Show in Härnösand, same evening as SOT Härnösand 13.7.

Honour guest of The Year 1: Lars Carlstedt, Tomelilla, from Swedish Automobile Sports Federation, in the tour leaders former Mitsubishi Pajero at SOT Mariestad 8.7. It was Lars who originally come up with the idea of Sweden Offroad Tour!
Honour guest of The Year 2: Motor journalist Christer Gerlach from Stockholm at SOT Strängnäs 10/., to do some training for his third car trip around the world. He is already in Guinness Book of Records for his two earlier one-man-trips around the planet.
Finest Jeep: A Jeep Grand Wagoneer 1988, in gold metallic and wooden decor from Switzerland in mint condition, at the camping in Kumla 9.7. But refused to drive offroad, after visiting the huge US car meeting Power Big Meet (10000 US cars!) in Västerås.
Most winchning: The tour leader car's Warn-wich had to work several times daily on SOT.
Worst breakdown: Dutch Michiel van Duyvendijk showed up in SOT Härnösand 13.7 with his recently rebuilt Land Rover Discovery 1997. But immediately broke his steering bar and got a toe in, in the deep forest. Rescued and welded by local Jeepers, but did not dare to continue on SOT.
Service of The Year: Rindab retailer Little Red 4WD Parts who sold recovery equipment during SOT.
Sunniest. Whole damn SOT 2005! Except for the last afternoon in Kiruna.
Dryest: SOT Falkenberg 2.7, not a singel drop of moist, even the "waterhole" was completely dry...
Rainiest: What rain?! Not a single raindrop fell during 15 days of offroading. But there were still mudholes on all locations except Falkenberg.
Warmest: SOT Stockholm 11.7. At the bottom of Ekeby gravel pit the temperature reached 33 degrees Celsius. Followed by 30 degrees in Strängnäs 10-7 and Söderhamn 12.7. A real heatwave!
Coldest: SOT Kiruna 17.7. At the top of Luossavara mountain: 13 degrees Celsius.
Best lunch: SOT Gällivare 16.7. Fresh grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, homebaked cookies and most important: icecold drink from a box full of ice. Perfect in the summer heat!
Best dinner: Farewell dinner at SOT Kiruna 17.7: 100 percent lapish: reindeer stew, homemade mashed potatoes, lingonberry jam, "thinbread" and lingonberry juice!
Best coffee brake 1: At the "top house" at the top of Dundret mountain outside Gällivare 15.7 with a view over one tenth of Sweden: fresh waffles with whipped cream and cloudberry jam!
Best coffee brake 2: The 50' style café at village Hälla, by road 90 between Sollefteå and Åsele: untouched and genuine furnishing from 1953. And delicate bakery!
Midnight sun: SOT Kiruna 17.7, on Saturday we saw the sun in a little haze, but on Sunday it was too clouded.
Bästa swim: SOT Söderhamn 12.7. Three swims - morning, noon, aftoernoon - in the biglake Bergviken just by the foot of the ski slopes/offroad area. Perfect when it is 30 degrees Celsius in the air.
Reindeer of The Year: The white albino between Kalix and Gällivare.

SOT feature in Land Rover Owner International

British magazine Land Rover Owner International has in its November issue a large feature on Sweden Offroad Tour 2003!
Actually it's the third time that the magazine covers Swedens greatest 4x4 adventure.
LRO has over a quarter of a million readers all over the world, which means good publicity for offroading in Sweden.
The feature is on five pages with lot of photos in colour from the SOT-days in Strängnäs and Stockholm.
The headline is "Sweden Rocks" and the headline on the front page is "Scandimania: Off-Road in Sweden". Reporter is Mark Saville and Photographer is Matt Howell.
Photos of the SOT-logotype and tour leader peter Öjerskog is also published.

 

300 4x4 cars and people from 15 nations on SOT 2003

8:e Sweden Offroad Tour 12-27 juli 2003 attracted totally 300 4x4 cars, with an average of 50 cars per offroad day. There were participants from 15 nations.
SOT was unusually wet in the south of Sweden which made the trails muddy and slippery. But in the north it was unusually dry with lovely weather but dry and dusty tracks. The Midnight Sun killed all the mosquitos and even made the arctic rivers warm!
SOT 2003 was driven on 13 different offroad ares from the south to the north of Sweden. Highlights were Hässleholm were the former military are now is owned by the city and Alvis Hägglunds testing tracks outside Örnsköldsvik.

9:th Sweden Offroad Tour will be arranged July 10-25 2004. A program will be published in the beginning of December 2003.

Danish Land Rover Clubwrites about SOT 2003

Dansk Land Rover Klub's (danish spelling) club magazine Oasen (The Oasis) publishes an article about 8th Sweden Offroad Tour 12-27.7 2003 n its latest issue 1-2003.
The article is very informative and is illustrated by a photo of Swedes Peter Larsson and Maria Thurbergs borrowed Land Rover 90, which earlier took part in giant Land Rover meeting Belgium National.
Oasen is without doubt one of the finest club magazines. It is published monthly and contains 64 pages! The magazine covers every aspect of Land Rover: news, meetings, calendar, technical, history, international, reports from all local departments, etcetera.

Hollands only offroad magazine 4WD Auto-Magazine writes in 3 2002 about 7:th Sweden Offroad Tour July 6-21 2002!
On the magazines calendar pages in the March issue is a photo news notice about Sweden's greatest 4x4 adventure.
The photo contains a beautiful midnight sun over the Adler lake in Boden, where the SOT-day use to be on Boden's gigantic southern military shooting range.
The news notice is a result of a press release about SOT 2002 that has been sent out to every European offroad magazine, plus a lot of club magazines.

Auto Bild alles allrad writes about SOT 2002

New German 4x4 magazine Auto Bild alles allrad (all all-wheel drive) writes about 7:th Sweden Offroad Tour July 6-21 2002 in its second issue!
The article is illustrated by three nice colour photos from SOT: a caravan of 4x4 cars driving through the watery trails in Kiruna, a reindeer running along the side of the road(!) and an old dirty GAZ 69 getting cleaned.
Auto Bild alles allrad is a daughter magazine to Auto Bild, Germany's largest and the world's second largest car magazine, with a circulation of almost 800.000 copies a month!
This has resulted in a stream of e-mails and that the number of visitors to www.swedenoffroad.com has rised 20 percent in one month!

94 percent of tourists pleased with Sweden

A recent survey from the Swedish Tourist Authority shows that 94 percent of the tourists are pleased or very pleased with their visit in Sweden.
95 percent of the tourists are prepared to recommend Sweden as a tourist country.
Only 1 percent is dissatisfied with Sweden.
On Sweden Offroad Tour we notice that the participants are especially pleased with the great freedom of Sweden. You can park free almost everywhere, you may camp free for one night almost everywhere, you are allowed to walk anywhere and take a swim in every lake.

German offroad magazine 4WHEEL Fun publishes a news notice about 7:th Sweden Offroad Tour July 6-21 2002 in its February issue!
The headline is "Zum Polarkreis" (Towards Arctic Circle) and is illustrated with a colour photo from the superwet trails outside Kiruna, Sweden's northernmost town.
4WHEEL Fun is Germany's second largest 4x4 magazine - some say they even passed German Off Road - and is one of Europe's largest 4x4 magazines with a circulation near 100.000 issues per month.

Italian 4x4 magazines write about SOT 2002

Italian offroad magazines Fuoristrada 4x4 (Offroad 4x4) and La mia 4x4 (My 4x4) write about 7:th Sweden Offroad Tour July 6-21 2002!
Fuoristrada 4x4 has already published a notice and new magazine La mia 4x4 will, in its premiere issue in March, have ha large feature on Sweden's greatest offroad adveture.
Last year the first Italian vehicle ever took part in SOT and Swedish offroading. Aldo from Rome in a Land Rover first drove 2000 kilometres from Italy and then another 1500 kilometres to take part in the northern half of SOT.
Aldo enjoyed the little cooler weather in Lapland and the partly wet terrain. In Italy it's just very hot and dry during the summer, not that fun for offroading.
Pressreleases about SOT 2002 have been sent to all offroad magazines and several club magazines in Europe.
Last year over 50 media published something about SOT reaching 3-4 million people. Then you also have www.swedenoffroad.com with 180.000 visitors per year.

Danish Land Rover Club writes about SOT

Danish Land Rover Club has a general feature about Sweden Offroad Tour in it's member magazine Oasen (Oasis), the Decemer 2001 issue.
Over three pages DLRK descrives the three advantages about SOT: varied terrain (we are driving through all of Sweden), maximum freedom (no pre registration, go on and off the tour whenever you want) and low price (30 Euro per offroad day and car).
The feature is illustrated by beautiful pictures from Boden and Arvidsjaur in northern Sweden.

Europe's largest 4x4 magazine covers SOT 2002

German magazine Off Road is covering Sweden Offroad Tour 6-21.7 2002! Details for SOT 2002 will be published on this site during the spring.
Off Road is Europe's largest 4x4 magazine with a circulation of 100.000 issues and about 300.000 readers.
The feature in Off Road will of course have a large impact on Central Europe, where German is spoken in Germany (80 million inhabitants!), Austria, Swtizerland, The BeNeLux countries, etcetera.
Off Road has actually published a SOT-feature before, made by freelance journalist Monika Neiheisser, who made a one page story in colour.
At least50 media has published something about this summer's SOT, reaching about 3-4 million people.

Swedish Land Rover Club writes about SOT


Svensk Land Rover Klubb (Swedish Land Rover Club) has in it's new club magazine a 3-pages story on this summers Sweden Offroad Tour 2001!
SLRK member Leif Wester from Stockholm has written and photographed the feature. He took part with his grown up daugher Anna and their Land Rover Discovery 1996 with V8 and automat.
Leif is very positive towards SOT and starts his story with the following sentence (translated into English): "I have here written down a little during 9 days driving with Sweden Offroad Tour and it must be said at once: RECOMMENDED."
Leif and Anna is a proof that also new beginners with their day by day 4x4 car can have fun on Sweden's greatest offroad adventure.
They wanted to go all the way to Kiruna. But last summers heat wave made them decide to go back home after Alvdalen. But they will participate in the Northern part of next year's Sweden Offroad Tour July 6-21 2002.

SOT feature in Hungarian 4x4 magazin


Hungary's only offroad magazine, 4x4 magazin, has i four pages colour feature on this summer's Sweden Offroad Tour in it's latest issue- or Svéd Off Road Túra as SOT is called in Hungarian!
The feature is written and photographed by Andras Gero, one of four Hungarians who took part in SOT, and the first Hungarians to do offroading in Sweden.
Because the drove the whole way there are photos from the entire trip from Simrishamn to Kiruna. SOT is also mentioned on the front page.
Andras Gero and daughter Kata from the capitol Budapest drove a special equipped Land Rover Defender 90 1992. They also took a second place in Mitsubishi Offroad Marathon.
About 50 media has published something about SOT 2001 reaching a public of 3-4 million 4x4-enthusiasts.

For the second year in a row Sweden Offroad Tour was covered by Land Rover Owner International!
The feature is published on 11 pages in the October issue of LROI - a record for SOT during its 6 year! It is also published as the first feature in the magazine!
The huge feature contains superb photos of Land Rovers in beautiful Swedish terrain, a long, exciting and positive text, separate columns on tour leader Peter Öjerskog and Land Rover participants, and a map over the tour.
The blue and yellow SOT logotype with web address is shown six times on top of the left pages!
The LROI feature has resulted in a flow of e-mails from british 4x4 enthusiasts who are interested in SOT July 6-21 2002. Already this summer britons were the largest foreign group with about 15 cars.

440 cars on 6th Sweden Offroad Tour 2001

Sweden Offroad Tour June 30 - July 15 2001 attracted 440 different 4x4 cars from 12 countries. SOT keeps its position as Sweden's and one of the worlds largest 4x4 adventures.
The summer of 2001 was unusually warm in Sweden, with temperatures reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius. But there is always mud on the offroad areas and a swimming lake nearby!
There were cars from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, England, Scotland, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Hungary - and USA!
The new competition Mitsubishi Offroad Marathon attracted 93 vehicles and was won by hungarian team Taita.
SOT 2001 was covered på Sweden's television largest motor program, The Traffic Magazine, with 1,5 million viewers, one forth of the grown up population of Sweden. It was also covered på Land Rover Owner International for the second year in a row!
SOT 2001 offered offroad driving om 13 different military offroad areas, and all with different kind of terrain. The two largest, Älvdalen and Boden, offers some of Western Europe's largest and finest terrain.
SOT 2001 ended with a perfect midnight sun at top of the Luossavaara monuntain in Kiruna. Luckily, becuaue there is only a 10-20 percent chance to see it because of clouds and often bad weather.
Before that the participants could drink av very well chilled ice glass of lingonberry juice at the partly permanent world famous ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi!

Swedish Television covers Sweden Offroad Tour

Sweden Offroad Tour June 30 - July 15 2001 will be featured on Sweden's largest TV motor program: Trafikmagasinet (Traffic Magazine) on national televison (Sveriges Television)!
The program has 1,5 million viewers, 1/4 of the grown up population of Sweden! And they are all interested in cars!
This is the best promoting SOT can get. TV has a great impact and 1,5 million is by far the largest figure for any motor media in Sweden.
Trafikmagasinet will mainly concentrate on the SOT-day in Södertälje 5 th of July, and close to Stockholm.

A feature on Sweden Offroad Tour 2000 was showed on Swedish Channel 5''s program Motor Journal monday October 23 20 pm!
The feature was almost 4 minutes - which is regarded as a long time in the Television business. It's the first time SOT is on national TV, earlier it has only been on local or regional TV.
The feature is filmed by offroad video company LNTV in Sweden, who covers the most of Swedish offroading since 1984.

The Land Rover Owner International Magazine has in its October issue a 10 page cover story on Sweden Offroad Tour 2000!
The story is written and photographed by LROI's editor David Phillips, who joined the tour in a four door Land Rover pickup.
Phillips is amazed over the endless fir forests and countless glittering lakes - and that you can read a book outside in the middle of the bright Scandinavian "night".

Markus has taken part in SOT two times with his Jeep CJ-7 -79.

Exciting beach-offroad in Estonia

The Baltic state Estonia has since one year its first and only offroad club: Estonian Off Road Club with contact person Aleksander Suur and about 30 cars.
Estonia became a free nation again in 1992 after the Soviet occupation since the war. There is still no laws against offroad driving (as in most West-Europe countries).
The Estonian Off Road Club drives mostly on former Soviet military areas and along the endless beaches by the Baltic Sea. The beaches offers both soft sand, hard limestone and swampy reed areas.
Estonian Off Road Club arranges meetings, trophys and competitions several times a year, with the Winter Trial as most popular. They also take part in Russian 4x4-adventures.
Estonia differs from the other east states. They talk a finno-ugris language similar to finnish (they understand each other). The north west coast also have long Swedish traditions where some villages still have Swedish names and the youngsters can learn Swedish in school!
As first Swede, web editor and Sweden Offroad Tour arranger Peter Öjerskog, joined Estonian Off Road Club for a weekend of lovely - and different! - offroading. Especially exciting was the driving out in the shallow sea on the hard and flat limestone bottom, but with lots of huge granite boulders to look out for! A feature will be publishied on the Swedish version of www.swedenoffroad.com in September, with a link from this notice.
Estonian Off Road Club heartly welcomes offroaders from other countries. Just contact them and they will be happy to show you the 4x4 opportunities of their charming country.

 

12 different nations on Sweden Offroad Tour 2000!

4x4 cars from 12 dfifferent countries took part during the 22 offroad days on Sweden Offroad Tour July 1-23 2000!
With an average of 50 vehicles per offroad day, in total 400 cars took part in Sweden's longest and biggest 4x4-event.
22 offroad days in a row is not just a record for Sweden - but for Western Europe!
Middle Sweden experienced its rainiest summer in a century, turning the offroad trails in to small creeks, and the terrain in to one huge layer of mud! But the worse weather - the better offroading!
Although all the rain the participants could see a beautiful midnight sun in Kiruna, Sweden's northernmost town, way above the Arctic Circle.
Sweden Offroad Tour 2000 was heavily covered by 4x4-media: for example American Four Wheeler, British Land Rover Owner International, German 4 Wheel Fun, Sweden's largest newspapper Expressen, Swedish 4x4 magazines on&offroad and Wheels, plus national TV Kanal 5's MotorJournalen. Plus 25 local newspapers, radio och TV!

4 Wheel Drive & Off-Road is Britain's largest offroad magazine that writes about all 4x4-brands.
